Natural Accents For An Aesthetic Room
When on a budget finding ways of bringing a room to life can be challenging. There are aesthetic room ideas which can be used that do not involve any money at all.
If one is willing to put a little diy effort into the mix you can take from nature and make it yours. Likewise if you are willing to spend a little the options widen as to what wood can offer you.
Wooden decor is a world apart from natural wood art. The two exist within the same element but the end creation is set apart and vastly different.
The Art would be the most expensive of the options so we will save that for last.
The decor side of the picture though holds something for you that the art does not, and I hate to admit that as an artist. The key is found in real functional decor not the cheesy stuff which I will go into detailing the difference shortly.
Yet it should be with minimal negative impact to daily life.
The Natural Aesthetic Room
Hands down the easiest way to add aesthetics to the home is with plants. It adds a bonus as a natural air purifier as well.
Not everyone has a green thumb, but before I dig into wood decor I want this one option out there for you to know. It doesn’t have to be flowers.
Do a little searching on air plants. They are cheap and easy to take care of.

The additional unique thing about them is they do not need pots like other plants. People have come up with creative ideas on how to display them and it really adds beauty for an aesthetic room.
You can also take wood and once cleaned and disinfected, add the wood to the display. The result is a very low maintenance display with multiple natural elements that also benefit your home.
This one example is why I enjoy wood so much. People often think of it as an item for walls or flooring and so on. Yes it is something we use to build structures but the options extend well beyond this.
If one has an aquarium, driftwood can be added to make a more natural environment for the tank. Wood also can be used in conjunction with wall displays as branches or on mantles.
To the more extreme I once knew a guy who wanted a small side table. After he had cut a tree down from working on his land he took a section of the main trunk and it became his side table.
It would surprise you what a little walk through the woods can yield you in terms of adding aesthetics to your home. Your imagination is the only limitation in thinking natural for your aesthetic room ideas.
It is within our nature to connect more with natural elements than metal or plastic. It brings a space to life adding character and beauty.
If one is willing to put a little time and effort into it many things we can do with minimal to no cost out of pocket. This is about discovering what inspires you at home.
Wooden Decor For The Aesthetic Room
I want to eliminate the fake wannabe prefab stuff from this discussion for an aesthetic room. Often there will be someone local who makes beautiful things from real wood that will be sourced locally.
Often these crafts and maker people are not expensive. This will give you an opportunity to add elements which either no one else has or is really unique to your home.

Many of them will offer some kind of customization if you want this. I always prefer local people over chain stores or big online retailers.
Yet those places can have some items that have appeal. Yet lets get into what you will want for wooden decor and what should be preferred for the home.
One of the misconceptions about wood color is that it is always too dark. This is not true. Oak and Maple are perfect examples of light grain wood that can be naturally finished if you want a lighter color in the home.
In my wood art I always prefer to start with light grained woods and work from there to gain contrast in color within a piece. These types of wood will work with many different colors while not casting a darker tone to the setting if you prefer it.
In terms of the items which work well as decor, we have all seen the tried and true little maker signs that talk about mom or dad with cute sayings. Yet lets step beyond that and the run of the mill picture frames.
We want to add aesthetics and function to your space rather than a cute saying. One would be surprised at what a diy panel for pictures can do for your room.
Organization trays are great for tables or buffets that can often get cluttered by daily life. I know a man who specializes in bowls and cups for holding things ranging from ink pens, fruits, and even his beer.
Apparently wood guys are not sophisticated enough to use wine racks. Nevertheless items of function add aesthetics which in turn organize space.
It is functional decor which brings character and functional wins the day in places like a dining room.
Here is one of the cool things about some woods, they can smell great. You get the aroma from the wood which in my opinion beats the chemical based air fresheners.
You are not limited to cedar in doing this. While that may be the most common thought of species consider Sandalwood.
The essential oils within the wood are said to last for decades adding aroma to the home.
Other wood species which will perform for you in this way include Lignum Vitae which is used in the making of perfumes. Cocobolo has a slight spicy scent to it if one enjoys flavors which bend in that direction.
Camphor is also another popular wood and has been used as a decongestant due to its scent. Some species such as Rosewood smell great as they are being worked but lose their scent shortly after.
In terms of adding aesthetic elements to your home, wood offers a lot more than the stereotypical “Nana’s Kitchen” sign hanging by the fridge.
To find all its wonders and uses one needs to step outside of Kirklands and into a few real wood studios.
If you notice many of the items I have named may not be commonly found in the average store. If they are found they will rarely be in some of the wood species which I have mentioned.
The difference in cost between the options you find will greatly depend upon where you live and the artisans within that region. If there are few locally that you can track down explore smaller artisan online shops.
There are many gems to be found that simply nothing else can compare to.
Aesthetic Room Ideas Found In Wood Art
Here we step it up to a whole other level of aesthetic room ideas that begins to reach into arts ranging from wall art to furniture. One of my favorites to make are wood art boxes that are used for keepsakes and other items of value.
Optionally one may wish to look at a wood chest. These too offer the same capacity in art if done by a real craftsman.
My art boxes are merely miniaturized versions of what could be possible.

Often these will hold memories and are gifts for a meaning beyond the mere item itself. As you get into wood art the meaning becomes far more important than the mere aesthetics.
With box art you can begin to accent other main items within the home. Dressers or tables can display these boxes adding beauty.
Often they will hold a place of prominence among the other general room decor. These boxes still hold a function but it is more specific for a special purpose. Due to this they are often kept for a lifetime while other items may come and go.
Wooden wall art is another example which can add aesthetics to a room on an exponential level. These pieces an often become a focal point for something larger.
I have seen the Celtic Tree of Life used as a centerpiece on a wall while family photos surround it depicting a family tree. Again ones creativity is only limited by imagination.

These wall pieces are essentially wood panels which have been carved to display the art within the wood. In this way they can also serve other functions as an inlay for a larger work if desired such as a table.
Here we step into real woodworking where modifications would need to be made in furniture yet the possibilities are there. The ability to create something unique for you and your family is there.
While the art side of the spectrum is the more expensive of many other options it does offer the most in terms of aesthetics. When used in conjunction with functional wood decor the impact is exponential within the effect it has upon a room or space.
It does not need to be a mansion to look like one within the room. How you structure and build the space with what is within it is everything.
Avoid The Pitfalls
There are things that I steer away from and advise one to avoid. The things which I lay out here is why I often will avoid big chain stores with prefab materials or big online retailers.
It is not that they do not have some nice pieces yet they are few and often have little options in quality items. Quality does not always equal expensive.
Yet for the prices these stores command you definitely should be getting more than you do from them.
The obvious is to avoid prefab materials. Yet also avoid any veneers. The core issue behind these is not just longevity but also there is no ability to refinish them effectively if needed.
If any refinishing work is done care is needed in order to not destroy the piece. A solid piece of wood can be worked on without fear of sanding too much or in the case of prefab it cannot be sanded at all.

Be suspicious of painted or stressed looking items. Ensure that it is not just a finish over engineered lumber.
Personally I dislike painted wood when it comes to display items. Yet I feel the same way concerning cabinetry as well.
Nevertheless paint often is used for speed to finish a product and hide things while a woodworker will typically want to display the beauty of the work itself naturally with the wood grain.
Notice any hardware which is used if any. Note how it is fastened or applied. That will give you an indication as to how much care is put into the overall work. This is not always true yet often it is.
By comparison if one were to look at my upper end box art the hinges I hand make from wood. This is a stark contrast to some cheap metal hinges you could get from Amazon.
The last note I will list in the concerns portion of this article goes back to the aromatic woods. If someone in the household is naturally allergic to a lot of things be careful.
You may want to discover if they would be allergic to the oils found within the wood. For aromatic wood it is the natural oils which give the scent to the air not the wood itself.

While the scent is in of itself most likely of no concern if the person is allergic to many things there could be a potential reaction to handling the wood.
While this is not likely I do wish to bring it up here for I have known one person where this would have been a problem.
Generally speaking the oils within the wood are benign and are of no concern except when looking at things such as food preparation.
Creating an aesthetic atmosphere does not have to be expensive. How much you decide to put into it is up to you. If you only can do diy for the moment then please do not be afraid of exploring the wood world.
Yet at some point to build a well rounded environment will require money.
Ultimately the goal no matter the cost is to have a home environment that will be inviting, healing, and comforting to you and the family. Home has always been a special place which has ideas tied to it such as safety and comfort.
Enhancing these ideals in a real way serves as a benefit allowing one to let go of the stress from the outside world. Thrive in your home spaces rather than merely living within them.
