Cool Things For Your Room

Cool Wood Items To Change Your Home Decor Life

If you want cool things for your room that will change your life for the better then stop and read. What is better is that they are natural and offer aesthetic appeal that few other items can give.

Nothing is better than wood, at least in my opinion. This is more than a home decor item, but offers artistic expression and function to the room.

While a lot will depend upon how much space you have within a room and which area of the home it is for these ideas can add to your life. Each is simple and many require very little in terms of diy work.

You may want to consider some of these suggestions being made from driftwood. It is a beautiful option.

Alternative applications are available to add beauty within your home to these wood items. Wood epoxy resin can be added in the form of art with varied designs.

Rivers being placed within a table for example is popular and very aesthetic to the eye.

Cool Item That Is More Than Decor : A Stump For A Table

Often rooms are absorbed by furniture and space is of a commodity. The right tree stump is not a stump at all but a table.

Its shape can be formed and size created to give the right support within a room while taking little space. It could replace the bulky night stand or serve as a coffee table.

The top can be sanded to a fine smooth finish displaying the live edge beauty of the wood. The key to using these on a diy is ensuring that they are level at the base and the top.

This is not too difficult to do. The only other thing to watch for is weight. You want to make sure that if needed it can move moved with some ease.

Multiple stumps can be used to form a small entertainment system in a bedroom giving shelf space. If desired it could be closed in and given doors to make an enclosure.

The cool part is that it will give a very unique piece to the room at minimal cost with a little work.

Wood Mirror Can Be A Cool Item For Decor

This will likely not be a diy project yet a mirror with an elegant wood frame gives class and appeal. When we are kids it may be okay to have the cheap Walmart mirror that people often stick to the back of a door.

When we grow up it becomes time for some class and beautiful things.

Wall hung mirrors can be selected in what they add to a room or to your life in function. A full length mirror many opt for over a traditional version.

Yet if you desire to take a step back into time and space allows a Victorian era option may be preferred.

Mirrors add dimension to a room. Some claim that they make a room feel larger or appear as if they have more space. I disagree with this but see it more as adding depth.

It gives a function while including appeal. With good lighting in the room you can see what you look like from head to toe not depending on the smaller bathroom mirrors and overhead lighting.

Wood Game Board Is A Cool Item For Decor

This may not be typical in a bedroom but a wood game board featuring something like chess is a great addition. If placed within an area dedicated to hosting or entertainment it gives a focal point for interaction.

Allowing it to be a featured piece within the room allows it to build aesthetics over the long term and life of its service. These game boards can be purchased or custom made by wood artists.

Often they either will rest on a table or can be build into a table.

The surrounding exterior of the game board is trimmed with wood and can be routed for an elegant appeal or left with a live edge. Its placement can be between two chairs replacing a side table or in a corner where additional seating is already present.

Wood Shutters Inside The Room As A Cool Item For Decor

This offers function and appeal. It may be from an older time but it held its purpose.

Forget the prefab pieces we can see in some modern homes. A shutter that runs full length from top to bottom with a rustic finish and old iron work is beautiful.

The added benefit is when desired you can close the shutters to block out light for a movie or keep the morning sun from blinding you.

Blinds have become more common in our time yet no matter how hard they try no blind ever looks good. They are still blinds hung from the top of the window trim.

The shutters may not be suited for every room in the home but may be more ideal for recreational rooms or bedrooms. It offers options to the home decor while not absorbing much in terms of space.

If you decide to go this route you may find the desire to continue with them as time goes by.

Wood Rafter Near The Ceiling

Laundry and storage rooms would benefit here. Using a rustic piece of board or older bard wood a rafter can be made near the existing ceiling.

If desired multiple rafters can be placed in a room if the ceiling is high enough. This may sound a little wild at first yet it serves you in new ways.

In past years wood boxing was used being built into a ceiling design. The wood trim would break the ceiling up into parts or sections as beams would come from the peak of the ceiling down to meet the wall.

This builds on that concept but for other purposes.

These rafters can be used to hang general household items such as brooms and mops or be used for laundry. It is an easy way to add additional drop shelving at a later date if extra storage space was needed.

This removes the awkward items from leaning in the corner and gives a place for them.

The feature is not something one would often use within a standard room of a home. Yet within teen rooms I have seen this idea used for adding their own creative personalized touch.

Lights, speaker mounts, and other ideas they come up with gives them a way to personalize the space minimizing damage.

6 Inch Plank Board Crown Molding

In kitchens or pantry areas this is bringing a bit of the past forward in time. Replace the exiting crown molding with rustic 6 inch wide plank boards.

One does not need to replace all the crown but perhaps a few sections of it. Additionally it could be installed just below the existing molding to save renovation time.

Hanging fresh herbs to dry was something that few today can remember. Those that do would also remember the aroma which it would give a kitchen.

Sage, Rosemary, and other spices would fill the air. It gave a place for herbs to be out of the way as they could dry.

If one has a garden some could be dried while other were used fresh daily. It was the original herb and spice rack that now resides on most counter tops within little bottles.

Certainly one could think of other uses for this feature within a kitchen yet this was its more traditional use.

The Old Wood Chair Is A Cool Item For Decor

If one is old enough they remember grandmothers old wooden chair which would sit in the corner of the kitchen. It is often where she would rest while working there.

If she was not in it then a grandchild would be. Today this is a feature which many do not have but we can give an old idea new purpose.

If the space is available an old pew bench could also be used. Yet remove a portion of the seating so that it becomes able to receive and hold a pot for planting.

Whether the seat is cut or removed the goal is to use the frame and infrastructure aesthetically.

Once the modification is made one now has a place to grow indoor herbs or other plants. In this way one does not depend on an outdoor garden in a seasonal way.

Oregano, chives, mint, rosemary, and thyme are among the most common used in cooking and would thrive indoors through the winter.

We are mixing the old world with the new. Here we can bring back to life some of the good ways which have been lost due to modernization within our world.

All the while these small things add to the beauty of our home while also reconnecting us to what was lost.

Slab Food Prep Board As A Cool Item For Function And Decoration

Counter spaces seem to always get cramped with stuff that shouldn’t be there. The food prep space shrinks into inches, or at least that is how it seems.

Reclaim the space with a food prep slab.

This is different from the dinky cutting board. A 2 ft by 3 ft board that is designed for your prep space dedicated to your needs will add more function than realized.

Once the board is oiled properly and with minor maintenance it will serve you for many years.

Having the place to put a hot pan or pot will no longer be a problem. Having the space necessary for chopping multiple ingredients adding or mixing as desired now can happen in one place.

The smaller auxiliary cutting board of the past can be held in reserve for the rare moments it may be needed.

Other Wood Home Features That Are Cool Items

The beautiful part about wood is how pieces can be built into each other and function as a unit. Entertainment systems that are custom made to fit ones needs is an excellent example of this. Cabinetry that is custom made is another.

Yet spin off ideas from these more common ideas can help create cool things for your room. Integrating benches to a dining table and room design is common. This is especially true for tight breakfast nooks.

Hide away doors for a wall mounted tv that is set into a wall or a corner lounge can double as hideaway storage is effective and functional. Features such as these may cost more in that most will require that they be custom built.

Some exist already within the market we have seen such as the storage coffee tables in stores.

A custom cabinet maker once showed me a design which would house the family china and dinnerware, yet there was a secret. In the back a hidden compartment would slide out after using a key with the built in lock for wine and glasses.

I could only assume this helped ensure the kids did not get to what they should not have.

It can take more time to have features such as these. Yet still if one is industrious and capable many can be done in a diy fashion.

Not everyone will be up to a custom cabinet with hideaway storage. Still a coffee table with hidden storage is relatively easy and most could do this with style saving money.

Simple Ideas To Enhance The Home

While some of my ideas are simple, good ideas should be. They should add aesthetics and also function.

It should provide opportunity for enhancing a space by their use such as the smell of an herb garden within the kitchen as they hang drying. This brings multiple natural elements into your home from the world around you.

Our world has become too plastic and prefabricated. We have lost touch with the importance of what nature can provide to our senses by sight, touch, smell and even in taste.

It is the simple and small changes that can begin to bring back some of those pieces to our life.

We must redefine our spaces so that they help us through our life in our health and well being. This is ever more true as we move into a world where things like a virus can cause people to be forced indoors.

While we cannot control all the elements which surround our daily life there are portions that we can reclaim as ours.

My ideas certainly are not a one size fits all. Each space is unique in its own right and how it is used. Often budgets are strained and what can be done must be carefully and frugally.

Yet there is nothing wrong with evaluating what you can do with these simple ideas in order to improve life.

Your ideas can take a cookie cutter home and turn it into a personal paradise. Name brands are not needed. It comes from your creativity and how you see your world.
