Interior Home Decor vs Artistic Creation
If you are looking to buy art for your home then Google may have been the first place you searched. Even a specific search for carved wood wall art will immediately take you to links leading you from Amazon and Kirklands all the way to Etsy. These places do not place value in art.
If you are looking for run of the mill Hobby Lobby type quality then you may not be looking for art. There is nothing wrong with the general interior home wall decor, yet there is a difference between this and artwork.
Nevertheless thanks to entities like Amazon and Etsy, artistic creation has been trashed in with generic imports from China.
An artists work cannot be confused with this low priced high volume world with no artistic value.
Oddly more often than not the best interior designs you buy at higher end stores are much in the same category as Hobby Lobby. If you are wanting to know what you are buying and if it is worth what you are paying, then you have come to the right place.
You should know if you are wasting your money or if it was a good purchase of artistic value. Believe me, those with quality artwork want to reach you, but there is a disconnect.
Disconnected from Art Collectors
Every artisan has a niche that they appreciate and prefer to follow. While mine may be carved wood panels for walls and wood art boxes others may be into decorative furniture.
Despite these different niches we all fall at the mercy of the giant marketers of this world. The second half of this blog is aimed at helping artists to understand our changing and evolving world within the markets that we live in and how to reach the public.
What is interesting about these two concepts that I have presented thus far is that initially they would seem to be unrelated. Rather the issue is directly related in that the artist wishes to reach the art collectors who appreciate and are willing to pay for their work.
Likewise the individual that is looking for something, a creation of artistic value, will have a difficult time discovering the artist.
Avoid The Online Wholesale Locations For Art

In the past places like Etsy have attempted to fill this gap. For a short while it did allow for the artist and the collector to connect.
As time moved forward and those like Etsy wished to increase share value they allowed others through their doors.
Amazon has attempted this same feat yet also will face the same issues as Etsy. Profits must be made and increase each year. This is when you begin to find products that should never have been allowed onto the format creep in.
A business model that is built around low pricing and fast shipping does not meet the formatted needs for artwork. Mass production from China with parts people put together then display as handmade fits that bill. Thus Etsy turned from a place where an artisan could showcase their work to something that appears more like the local county arts and craft show.
Finding Artists Within Art Shows

Art Guilds would be the next best bet for the collector and artist to meet. Yet the artists guild is limited. Their footprint is determined by location, time, and whatever that guilds qualifications to join may be.
Their presence at a location will be for a few days with little to no online presence for the artist. That is, unless the artist themselves have put in that work on their own. Unfortunately the guild system is in of itself plagued with issues that it must confront in this modern world.
It Is Best To Seek Out Real Artists
This brings us to the artist and the online world. Artisans are great at what they do. Unfortunately they are often not specialists at other things such as website building, online marketing, or other business aspects.
There is no way for an artist to out maneuver the funding behind the marketing power of those like Etsy or Kirklands. Yet this branding will almost always show number one in search engines.
While my focus here will be on wood art as that is what I do and it is a market that I understand, have an open mind. Artisans from other backgrounds may still find a benefit to what I offer here in information. For the collector, welcome and enjoy all that you find and I hope that this blog will help broaden your horizons.
